Hi, I’m O.P.

The world is my oyster and I’d love to eat all of it!  No local delicacy is safe from me.  I’ll try anything.  I’ve devoured worms, eyeballs, animal brains and chicken feet even though my diet is mostly plant based these days (when I’m home).  It’s no holds barred when I’m traveling.  It’s part of the adventure and I won’t miss any part of the cultural experience.  I love finding out how other people in far away places live and try to absorb as much as I can.  I love how they prepare Pachamanca in Peru, one of my favorite dishes in one of my favorite countries.  I’ve spent 3 days horseback riding in Patagonia in Chile and at the end of the trip, my Gaucho guide gave me a Boina, a Beret adopted by South American Gauchos, and said, “I consider you a Gaucho now”.

I like to think of myself as a surfer, adventurer, foodie, son, uncle and brother; not in that order of course .  These are all the things that make my world go round.  I love my wonderful, crazy, fun family and enjoy traveling with them.  I surf, with my four brothers and hang out with my whole family every Sunday for our Sunday dinner.  Two of my nephews surf with us now and their cousins are slowly picking it up too!  My ideal trips are when I can go on Surfari (surf safari) with my brothers to some exotic destination with great surf and tasty food.  I traveled to Nicaragua with one of my brothers and we surfed our brains out until my eyes were so sunburned I just kept producing tears and couldn’t open my eyes longer than a split second.

When I’m not traveling, surfing or stuffing my face, I’m helping save lives.  I work in the medical field and love the challenges of working in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department.

I try to travel at least three times a year.  So far, my favorites are Peru, Spain, Indonesia, Italy, Uganda, Costa Rica, Fiji and Argentina. I also try to sneak off to Baja, Mexico for a quick surfari with my brothers and friends.  My nephew Max will soon be joining us.  They’ll have to make more tacos to fit in this kid’s belly.

I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of our beautiful world and some of the places still on my bucket list are: Ethiopia, Namibia, Bolivia, Antarctica, New Zealand, Australia, Tibet, Mentawai, Papua New Guinea, Montenegro, Jordan, Israel, Belize, Guatemala.  If you’re from one of these amazing places, please, please I’d love to hear from you.  I’d appreciate any tips on food, activities and not to miss sites and events.  If one or more of these places are on your bucket list and you’re easy to get along with, love to laugh, an adrenaline junky, not afraid to eat anything; you’re welcome to join me on my adventures.  I enjoy traveling solo but, welcome intrepid souls to share the road.

Do you have any favorite places that I should travel to?
